1. Ab-initio :

2. Ad interim:

3. Affidavit : 

It is the statement oath person given on oath. It is signed by a Notary or other officer who can administer the oath to the effect that the person signing the affidavit was under oath when doing so.
Person making the affidavit should be fully described in the affidavit and that he is conversant with the facts stated therein. Affidavits generally should be confined to matters within the personal knowledge of the declarant.

4. Alienated: 

Transferred in so far as the rights of the State Government to payment of rent or land revenue are concerned, wholly or partially, to the ownership of any person.

5. Attestation : 

An act of witnessing an instrument in writing at the request of a party making the same and subscribing it as a witness.

6. Boundary mark: 

Any erection, whether of earth, stone or other material, and also any hedge, unploughed ridge, or strip of ground, or other object whether natural or artificial set up, employed, or specified by a survey officer or revenue officer in order to designate the boundary of any division of land.

7. Caveat : 

The warning. E under section 148 A of Civil Procedure Code has to be signed by the caveater or his advocate.

8. Certified copy 

It is a copy or extract certified in the manner prescribed by section 76 of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

9. Chavadi : 

It is the place ordinarily used by a village officer for the transaction of village business

10. Consolidation of holdings: 

The amalgamation and the redistribution of  holdings in any village, mahal or taluka or any part thereof so as  plots in holdings.

11. Decree: 

It is the formal expression of adjudication. Important elements of the decree are formal
be expression of an adjudication, conclusive determination of rights, adjudication on the rights of
the parties with regards to the matters in controversy.

12. Deemed tenant: 

A person lawfully cultivating any land belonging to another person shall deemed to be tenant if such land is not cultivated personally by the owner and if such person is not 

(a) member of the owners family, or 

(b) a servant on wages payable in cash or kind but not in crop share or a hired laborers s cultivating the land under the: supervision of the owner or any member of the owner's family, or

(C) a mortgagee in possession.

13. Estate :

Any interest in lands and the aggregate of  such interests vested in persons capable of holding
the same.

14. Estoppel :

It is a rule by which a party to a litigation is stopped from asserting or denying a fact.

15. Farm building : 

A structure erected on land held for the purp0se of agriculture for all or any of the following
purposes namely 

(a) for the storage of agricultural implements, manures or fodder.
(b) for the storage of agricultural produce.
(c) for sheltering cattle.
(d)for residence of members of the family. servants or tenants of the holder. or
(e) for any other purpose which is an integral part of his cultivating arrangement.

16. Fragment : 

A plot of land of less extent than the appropriate standard area determined under Bombay
Fragmentation Act.

17. Gaothan or Village site :

It means the land included within the site of a village, town or city as determined by section 122 of Maharashtra Land Revenue Code.

18. Government lessee : 

A person holding land from Government under a lease as provided by section 38 of Maharashtra Land Revenue Code.

19. Hear say: 

The information heard, though not known as to whether it is true or not is the hearsay
information.

20. Holding: 

A portion of land held by a holder.

21. Injunction : 

An injunction is a judicial process Whereby a party is required to refrain from doing, any
particular Act. It is in the nature of preventive relief.

22. Injunction : 

It is specific order of the court  forbidding the commission of a wrong threatened or the
continuance of wrongful course of action already begun.

23. Joint holders :

Holders or Occupants who hold land as co-sharers, whether as co-sharers in an undivided
family according to Hindu law or otherwise, and whose shares are not divided by metes and bounds;
and where land is held by joint holders or joint occupants, " holder or occupant", as the case may
be, means all the joint holders or joint occupants.

24. Judgment : 

Judgment is the statement given by the judge of the grounds of a decree or order.

25. Land: 

Includes benefits to arise out of the land, and things attached to the earth, or permanently fastened to any things attached to the earth, and also shares in or charges on, the revenue or rent of villages, or other defined portions of territory.

26. Land records : 

Records maintained under the provisions of, or for the purposes of, Maharashtra Land Revenue Code and includes a copy of maps and plans or a final town planning scheme, improvement scheme or a scheme of consolidation of holdings which has come into force in any area under any law in force in the State and forwarded to any revenue or survey officer under such law.

27. Land revenue: 

All sums and payments, in money received or legally claimable by or on behalf of the State Government on account of any land or interest in or right exercisable over land by or vested, under
whatever designation such sum may be payable and any cess or rate authorized by the State Government and includes premium, rent, lease money, quit rent, judi payable, by a Inamdar or any other payment provide under any Act, Rule, Contract or Deed on account of any land. 

28. Lease: 

A legal agreement by which n money is paid in order to use movable or immovable property for an
agreed period of time is a lease.

29. Mutation:.

Change in record of rights of f land because of acquisition, termination or alteration of the rightin
the property.

30. Non-agricultural assessment : 

The assessment fixed on any land under the provisions of Maharashtra Land Revenue Code or rules there under with reference to the use of the land for a non-agricultural purpose.

31. Occupancy : 

A portion of land held by an occupant.

32. Occupant : 

A holder in actual possession of unalienated land, other than a tenant or Government lessee provided that, where a holder in actual possession is a tenant, the land holder or the superior landlord, as the case may be, shall be deemed to be the occupant.

33. Occupation: 

Means possession.

34. Pardi land: 

A cultivated land appertaining to houses within a village site.

35. Partition : 

It means transfer of co ownership i in to a separate ownership of each as to the portion of the
property allotted.

36. Protected tenant :

A person is protected tenant if he is tenant on some notified dates declared by the government under the tenancy law.

37. Sub judice : 

Under consideration of the court.

38. Tenancy and Tenant: 

Tenancy means the relationship of land lord and tenant and tenant means a person who holds land on lease and includes-
a) a person deemed to be tenant under Section 4 of the Tenancy Act. 
b) a person who is protected tenant, 
c) a person who is permanent tenant.

39. To hold land : 

To be lawfully in actual possession of land as an owner or tenant.

40. To occupy land : 

To possess or to take possession of the land.
