9. Non-Government Organisation (NGO)
The United Nations (U.N.) Department of Public Information (DPI) defines the NGO as “A not-for profit, voluntary citizen's group that is organized on a local, national or international level to address issues in support of the public good.”
NGO is also known as Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) is a group, an organisation, a nonprofit establishment or a nonprofit entrepreneurship of individuals, activists, voluntary and social persons.
TYPES OF NGO / NPO :
A. SERVICES :
It includes those organisations that run campaigns to advance healthcare, family planning and education. The funds for these organisations may come from private individuals or from the government authorities. They categories such activities into programmes that ask for people's active involvement to ensure smooth execution.
B. PARTICIPATION :
It include locals in the project's implementation, whether through labour, material, financial or other contributions.
Participation starts with the identification of needs & continues through the planning & execution phases of a community development project. Participatory orientation is common in cooperatives.
C. CHARITABLE :
It includes to attempt to making decisions for other people with little involvement from recipients. It includes NGOs that run campaigns to meet the needs of the underprivileged, such as to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, medication and transportation. Such NGOs also play an active role in supporting those in need after natural disasters. These organisations play a very vital role in raising the development. Typically, they get financial support from the government authorities & they can also receive private donations.D. EMPOWERMENT :
It aim to raise awareness regarding the potential power that impoverished people possess to improve their own lives. It also help them in better understanding the social economical and political elements that affect them.These organisations can emerge instinctive around a problem or topic in some cases, while in other cases, external professionals assist in the establishment of such groups.
