13. LOK ADALAT i.e. LOK NYAYALAYA :
The ordinary courts are unable to dispose the civil & criminal matters speedily as they have to follow strict technical rules of procedures & evidence.
Justice through court has become more expensive; to reduce the burden of ordinary courts and to provide speedy cheaper remedy a parallel machinery is constituted by establishing different tribunal. There tribunal follows principle of natural justice and not strict rule of procedure & evidence.
Lok Adalat were organized as a transitory forum for settlement of dispute managed by local volunteers & social workers.
Lok Adalat provide quick justice at less expenses. It is an old concept. In ancient India it played vital role in settlement of disputes.
Lok Adalat is governed under The Legal Services Authority Act, The vital part is that this authority has to provide free & competent legal services to the weaker section of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities & to oragnise Lok Adalata to secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity.
